Google rewards mobile friendly sites Open or Close
You probably use, like most people, Google to navigate your way and search around the web. It’s typically how lot of other people will find your site too.
Whilst Google is a search engine you want to have your website listed on, it can be quite a task to keep up with the regular changes to the rules that determine which websites show at the top of the natural search results.
On 21st April of this year Google changed the rules yet again to prioritise mobile friendly websites when users are searching via Google on mobile and tablet devices. Here’s what google had to say:
Today’s the day we begin globally rolling out our mobile-friendly update. We’re boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.
So, what is there to do. Well, first I suggest you test if your website is mobile friendly using the official google tool here.
I would expect that the websites of my clients would be pretty much up to par with being mobile friendly, particularly the ones that were created in the last couple of years.
If your website isn’t mobile friendly you might want to look into either upgrading your website to the lastet technology or make it mobile friendly.

Some of you have a lot of personal user interaction with the visitors that come to your website. Often people will tell you about their experience with using your website. That is great feedback that you always should listen to.
However, there are situations that cause you stress in particular when people are saying "I can not access your website" or "Your website is down" etc.
How do you know for sure if your website is really down?
First of all, there are lots of reasons why the website is down, or could be down. A good way to make sure that this is not just a ONE USER experience is to test your website. Here are some services you could use to quickly check:
Reasons why your website could be temporarily down are and what you can do:
- The web servers come with an uptime guarantee of 99% that means that 9 hours in a year they possible could be down. Nothing you can do except wait, most of the time it is only a matter of one or two minutes.
- From a browser to the actual place where the files of your website are hold could be a long way and there are several components in the middle who could temporarily experience a problem, meaning your website is also affected even though there is nothing wrong with it. Again, just wait.
- Your website is often cached meaning that the website is not always freshly loaded from your web host but from a cache along the way (ISP) or your server cache. You could try to reload the site directly from the Internet. This can be done by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time. Sometimes a firewall or other security software is disabling you to visit a web page, and there is also a possibility that your ISP has some kind of network problems.
So, keep calm, check your website, most likely there is nothing wrong with it

In the process of establishing your website we have already setup a Google account which you now can utilise to register your business. It is a simple and straight forward process.
Understanding articles, categories and menus as administrator Open or Close
Let's start with some definitions. An Article is some written information that you want to display on your site. It normally contains some text and can contain pictures and other types of content. For many Joomla! sites, articles form the majority of the information presented in the website.
It is important to understand that, with Joomla!, the content of the site (for example, Articles) is totally separate from the formatting of the site -- the way it looks on the page. So it is best to think of articles as pure content, independent of the way it might be presented. For example, the same Article might be shown with different fonts, colors, headings, and background, and might be shown in different locations on the page.
Categories in Joomla! provide an optional method for organizing your articles. Here's how it works. A Category contains articles and other Categories. One Article can only be in one Category. If a category is in another category, it's called a subcategory of that category.
For example, you might have a Category called "Pets" and in that category, subcategories called "Dogs" and "Cats". Articles about dogs would be assigned to the "Dogs" Category, ones about cats to the "Cats" Category. You cannot have one Article that is in both the "Cats" and "Dogs" categories. To work around this, you could either (1) create a new Category called "Cats and Dogs" or (2) create a second Article to put in the second Category.
Why Use Categories?
There are two main reasons you might want to organize your Articles in categories.
List and Blog Layouts
First, there are built-in Menu Item Types in Joomla! that take advantage of this organization: Category Blog and Category List. These Menu Item Types (also called "layouts") make it very easy to show articles that belong to certain categories. As new articles are created and assigned to categories, they will be automatically placed on these pages according to the parameters you set for each page.
For example, say you have a Category Blog layout for the "Pets" Category, and say you have it set to order articles starting with the most recent one first. When you add a new Article to the "Pets" Category, it will automatically show on the "Pets" blog page as the first Article. You don't have to do anything other than add the Article and assign it to the "Pets" Category.
Organizing Articles in Article Manager
If you will have a large number of articles on your site, a second reason to use categories is to simply group the articles so you can find them. For example, in the Article Manager, you can filter articles based on Category. So if you have 200 articles in your site, you can find an Article more easily if you know its Category.
Categories vs. Menu Organization
It is important to understand that the structure of Categories (e.g. Organisms -> Pets -> Animals -> Dogs) has nothing to do with the structure of the menus on your site. For example, your site could have one menu level or six menu levels.
Other Types of Categories
There is also a potential for confusion about categories. Categories are also used by other components, including Banners, Contacts, News Feeds, and Weblinks. These categories are completely different from Article categories and are set up in different screens in the back end of Joomla!. So when you see something about categories, it might refer to Article categories or it might refer to categories for these other components.
A Menu is a set of menu items like you see on the left hand side of this page. Each menu item defines an link to a page on your site which can be a simple article, a category list or an article blog. A Menulink has settings that control the contents and style of that page. Additionally, each menu item has an "alias" that will be used to create human-readable URLs when "Search Engine Friendly" URLs are on. Menu items can have any number of subitems.
A Menu isn't automatically shown on any page. You need to create the menu item to provide a link for your visitor to access your content.
Backing up your website Open or Close
Your website took a lot of time and dedication to build and maintain.
There is always a possibility that something can go wrong and in this instance a backup can save you everything. Yes, web hosting server providers do take backups as well but it is quite tedious to extract that in order to reinstall your website.
Here is a simple tool that will help you keeping a copy of your website and it is so simple to do. After you have made changes to your website and you are happy with the result, befor you log out of your administrator, do the following:
- Navigate to COMPONENTS (you find it on top) and click on it, a drop down menu opens
- Look for AKEEBA BACKUP and click on it
- Click on the button BACKUP, a new window opens
- You could add a comment if you like but it is not necessary, then click on BACKUP NOW!
- A new window opens and the backup is initialised. Please do not close this window until the backup is finished! You will see a notice saying BACKUP COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
- Now click on MANAGE BACKUPS to view your latest backup.
- You could download your backup by clicking on the button under your backup file in the section MANAGE & DOWNLOAD.
- You are done!
Log into your administrator area Open or Close
To be able to start work on your Joomla website, you need to log into the administrator area.
You will see a little window popping up asking you for a username and password. This window is an extra security add-on that I have put in place for your website. Enter the security username and password in there.
Next you will arrive at the standard Joomla login. Just enter your username and password there and you will find yourself at your administrator backend of your website.

We find that we are asked the same question by a lot of our clients, so here we would like to list the answer for you.
Go to History -> Clear Recent History. Choose the time range and the items you wish to clear and click Clear Now.
Access Chrome and go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Clear Browsing Data. Select the items you want to delete, choose the period for which you want to delete them and click Clear Browsing Data.
Open Safari and go to Develop -> Empty Caches. If you do not see the Develop menu item, you can enable it from Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Show Develop menu in menu bar.
Open Opera and go to Tools -> Delete Private Data. Choose which items you wish to delete and click Delete.
Click the three dots button in the upper-right corner of the screen and select Settings from the drop-down menu. Under Clear browser data, select Choose what to clear. Check the boxes labeled Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data, Cached data and files and click the Clear button.
Internet Explorer 9, 10 and 11:
Go to Tools -> Safety -> Delete browsing history. Then uncheck the option for Preserve Favorites website data, tick the options for Temporary Internet Files and Cookies and click Delete.
